Peppermint Oil “Black Mitcham”

Peppermint oil is one of the most abused and adulterated oils in the fragrance industry, with large quantities of the most common oils (Indian and American) really being cornmint that has been stripped of menthol for the pharmaceutical industry. True French oil is the standard bearer of quality. But there is one other peppermint on the market that blows even the French out of the water: fine aged Peppermint Oil “Black Mitcham” indigenous to England and, after a period of extinction from those green isles, restored to its glory in recent years.

Pining for the superior peppermint oil of his youth, Sir Michael Colman (of the Colman's Mustard family) sought out, discovered in far distant America, and restored this glorious plant to its native land where it has now thrived across generations.

The black mitchan oil that we stock at Fraterworks is the very oil from Sir Michael's family estate in England. The Colman family produce the oil and age it for two years ensuring utter perfection.

Dating back to the 1750s, Peppermint oil "Black Mitcham" is the supreme peppermint. It is the peppermint of candy canes, peppermint creams, and all things wonderfully Wonka. In a side by side comparison with finest French peppermint oil, Black Mitcham is distinctly gourmand. It has a sweetness and even a subtle floralcy that is lacking in the French. Additionally, due to the aging the oil undergoes, the penetrating top notes common to oils of the mentha piperita family are tempered, allowing the full harmony of the oil to be taken in at first sniff.
